I've played around and done some more searching and have "sort of" been able to do something.
I was following these instructions I found:
- Go to Administration > Site administration > Plugins > Blocks > Manage blocks (or via the URLhttp://yourmoodlesite.org/admin/blocks.php) and unprotect the navigation block by clicking the padlock icon
- Turn editing on in any course
- Go to the front page and use the 'Add a block' dropdown menu to add a navigation block there, setting it to display throughout the entire site
- Go back to Administration > Site administration > Plugins > Blocks > Manage blocks and re-protect the navigation block.
The problem was, on my front page my "add a block" block was in the "administration only area" in the essentials theme. It didn't have a "navigation block" that I could add, and turn on for the entire site.
I went back into the course itself, and the "add a block" in the course itself allowed me to add a "navigation" block.
That worked and I was able to enroll a student.
I went back to my front page, and was curious if I needed the "add a block" block to be moved outside of the "admin only" area to be able to see a "navigation" block as I have to do this with the "book" module for a similar issue which Julian tells me is a known bug.
I moved the "add a block" block up onto the front page, and know it has totally disappeared. Talk about frustration...lol
Anyway, I can add a student, but I will need to add a navigation block to each course. That is an OK workaround for now, but I would like to be able to do it from the front page.
I now need to work out haw to add the "add a block" block back on my front page. I'd much rather be setting up courses than setting up the set up, but I really like the theme and it's coming along nicely, albeit time consuming working through these issues. I just have a few hiccups left.
