Re: Cloning a Moodle Site

Jeff,

What you are asking for is both easy to do and done all the time.  We clone and load share many of our sites, but it is not something that Moodle would handle from within the software.  Mirroring or (Cloning) a server / website must be done at a server level and requires the use of some system level software.  The following is a short list of the info that would be required to setup a mirror server.

  1. Do you want to mirror the entire server or just one site?
  2. What OS is being used on both physical computers?  Most mirroring software requires both machines to be running not only the same OS, but the same OS version too.
  3. How often do you want the cloning to occur, ie: Once a day, once an hour, or anytime a change is made to the master server.

My suggestion is that you contact the IT department at your University and discuss your needs with them.  Also if the clone server is not on the same network and subnet as the production server, you will have some security issues to deal with.

Good luck,

Tim
