Re: Split-track: completion of restricted activities

Hi Ray,

Do you mean using 'Separate Groups' or restrict access by groups or groupings?

Neither satisfy a split-track requirement fully:

  • Using 'Separate Groups' for the course and setting a quiz for example does not give different questions or grading options to each group, nor does it support additional activities to be given to a particular track only;
  • Using restrict access by groups or groupings is exactly the same as using restrict access by user profile.

So it seems a student can never complete the course (via course completion at least) with restricted settings that permanently exclude them but require completion. For example two independent pathways through the same course that do not rejoin.

Seems like it's back to the drawing board:

  • One workaround is to have a separate course for each, which then makes this an enrolment issue where enrolments must split out into each pathway;
  • Another workarounds involves pathway joining activities that serve as completion trackers, like a label that you can mark via self-completion. A little redundant and give an inaccurate display of current progress along the way;
  • Development to completion tracking and evaluate the complexities and subtleties there - "completion sets" seem necessary to achieve this;
  • Completion tracking per section might also help with this
  • Ignore and find another way around progress tracking outside of the course completion
